How Does Eyebrow Threading Work? [ A Complete Guide ]

What Is Eyebrow Threading? Threading is an ancient form of hair removal that uses a cotton blend thread to remove hair from the follicle. The piece of string is wrapped around a follicle of hair and then twisted until the hair is pulled out to remove the hair. In terms of brow threading specifically, this technique allows the artist to best control the thread to achieve precise shaping results. When it comes to shaping brows, threading is the most precise form of hair removal, the BEST method for shaping brows, is gentle and ideal for sensitive skin, and removes hair from the follicle for lasting results. During a threading session, clients are typically in a reclining chair and asked to hold the skin taut with their fingertips from the top of the brow upwards and from their eyelids downwards. This makes the area more accessible for the artist to better shape the brows. Did you know Ziba Beauty was the first to introduce the Art of Threading to the modern world? How To Thread Eyebrows Step By Step Process At Ziba Beauty, we pride ourselves in our 4-step process. This system allows us to better serve you and help you achieve the best, long-lasting results. Benefits of Eyebrow Threading There are many benefits to threading eyebrows. Many clients prefer this method of hair removal because it is fast, precise, and not as painful as any other form of hair removal. Other benefits to threading include: No chemicals are used during a threading service It gives better shaping results It is less expensive than other hair removal procedures Results can last up to 2-3 weeks Before and After Care for Eyebrows Threading Taking care of the skin where eyebrow threading took place is an important step in achieving the best results for your desired brow shape. Before your eyebrow threading session, we recommend you stay away from any stimulating treatments to the skin that add more heat to the surface, for example, chemical peels or tanning beds, as this will make the skin more sensitive and can increase the likelihood of bad reactions. Although it’s not necessary, you can exfoliate the skin around the brow hairs to remove away dead skin. You can also prep the skin with natural oils and vitamin E to keep your skin nourished and smooth pre-threading. How to take care of your eyebrows after threading is an important part of the threading experience. Since your pores will be open after your session, we recommend avoiding swimming pools, saunas, steam rooms, hot temperatures and direct sunlight in general. You can soothe any slight irritation with ice cubes, rose water spritz, aloe vera cream, tea tree oil, daily moisturizer, and sunscreen. All of these elements will help soothe the threaded area and provide a layer of protection against harmful UV rays that could add irritation to your skin. How Much Does Eyebrow Threading Cost? How To Take Care of Eyebrows After Threading

Taking care of the skin where eyebrow threading took place is an important step in achieving the best results for your desired brow shape. An alternative to waxing and plucking, threading requires a simple string of twisted thread and skilled hands to remove unwanted facial hair. The piece of string is wrapped around a follicle of hair and then twisted until the hair is pulled out to remove the hair. In terms of brow threading specifically, this technique allows the artist to best control the thread to achieve precise shaping results. Typically, a brow threading service lasts no more than 15 minutes. Full face threading, which usually includes the upper lip, sides, chin, and forehead, can take up to 45 minutes to complete. Is Eyebrow Threading Bad for Your Skin? As with any beauty treatment, there are minimal side effects after an eyebrow threading service. Although generally, the service isn’t painful, you can expect minor side effects which may include the following: Redness This is caused by the removal of the hair itself and is a temporary side effect that naturally fades within a few hours, if not minutes. Sensitivity This is caused by the sensation of the thread removing hair and can be experienced in the form of watery eyes or a sneeze. This sensitivity is also temporary and naturally fades by the time the threading service is over. Tips To Take Care of Eyebrows After Threading Since threading can cause minimal redness and slight skin irritation, it’s recommended to take extra care of your skin immediately and in the days following your threading session. Here are some eyebrow threading aftercare tips you should consider to treat your skin after threading: Ice Cubes Use ice on the threaded area to soothe any puffiness or redness. You can apply ice or any other cold compress immediately after your threading service, and before any of the eyebrow threading aftercare advice below. Rose Water Spritz Spritz your face or treated area with rose water. Since rose water has anti-inflammatory properties, it can help reduce the redness of irritated skin. You can use the spritz throughout the day until your skin is no longer red or sensitive. Aloe Vera Cream A vital step in our Ziba Beauty threading service includes the application of cooling gel to the threaded skin. This gel includes aloe vera, which helps reduce inflammation and redness. At home, you can continue to apply an aloe vera cream to soothe your skin. Tea Tree Oil Part of our suggested skincare tips after threading also includes tea tree oil. If you prefer oils over creams or face spritz, this may be the better alternative for you since tea tree oil also reduces inflammation to encourage skin healing, but in an oil base. Moisturize Hydrate your skin as much as possible. As part of your daily and/or nightly beauty routine, apply a moisturizer that does not contain perfume or alcohol, since these can deter your healing process and cause more irritation. Don’t Exfoliate Proper exfoliation is necessary in a beauty routine in order to remove dead skin cells clogging the skin and uncover fresh new cells below. However, we highly suggest you not exfoliate at least 24 hours after your threading service, to avoid any unnecessary irritation. Avoid the Sun Many people experience sun rashes naturally, which results in a red, itchy rash when exposed to too much sunlight. Therefore, we suggest you not increase your chances of further irritating your skin by avoiding direct sunlight altogether. Sunscreen If you do not typically use sunscreen as part of your daily beauty routine, we suggest you begin to incorporate one with least SPF 30– especially in the days post your threading service. This will add a layer of protection against harmful UV rays that could add irritation to your skin. Your Vegan Skincare Should Include Brow Threading

If you follow a vegan skincare regimen, chances are that you’ve already discovered The Art of Threading®. This ancient method of removing unwanted hair uses a thread and skilled artistry to efficiently remove any undesired hair. Other than plucking, which we don’t recommend, other popular hair removal and brow shaping alternatives typically require some sort of chemical, which over time, can cause damage to the skin. At Ziba Beauty, we use an organic thread that is exclusive to our brand. This proprietary blend allows us to continue this centuries-old method in the most sustainable way. So if you’re looking for organic, clean, and socially conscious elements to add to your vegan skincare, or beauty routine altogether, we highly recommend you try threading. Although the eyebrows are the most common facial area to get threaded, this technique can be done on all parts of the face. Other areas include the forehead, sides, cheeks, nose, chin, and upper and lower lip. Not only does this full face threading completely remove unwanted peach fuzz, but it also leaves your skin mildly exfoliated and ready for the rest of your skincare application. Are you ready to book your threading appointment today? See our list of studios and book your appointment online, today!

Poonam and Priyanka: Brows, Culture + Their Journey to 1 Million

Poonam and Priyanka Shah are on a personal journey to expand their already-massive social media following. On Instagram alone, their followers reach is at 196k+. As for YouTube, where it all began for the dancing duo, the twins hope to increase their 284k+ subscribers to 1,000,000 through a special docu-series called “Journey to 1 Million.” But as these social media influencers put it during a sit-down conversation with us at our Ziba Beauty studio in Downey, CA, numbers can be deceiving.  The viral internet sensations who’ve made an online impact through their unique Indian-American dance fusion videos talked to us about the reality that goes into building a sustainable online brand– and how their Indian culture has shaped their identity and careers. Growing Up Chicagoan-Indian-American Not allowed to watch mainstream American television, Poonam and Priyanka grew up admiring Indian commercials. When they lived in Chicago, they rehearsed them repeatedly over the phone to their grandmother. Being able to identify with the Indian actors and dancers they saw on television pushed the twin duo to appreciate the arts altogether. “The Indian community in Chicago gave us a platform at a young age,” says Priyanka. “The Jain Society of Metropolitan Chicago and Diwali shows, that’s where it all started for us.” Their big break, however, came years later as contestants on Season 9 of India’s top celebrity dance show, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa: India’s Dancing with the Stars. From their participation in that reality show contest, they were able to secure numerous dance deals and media coverage. But although Poonam and Priyanka are enjoying their spot in the limelight, they also want to show all the work that goes into building a profitable online brand. “We’re first-generation U.S. born,” says Priyanka. “Our parents are straight from India, came [to the U.S.] 30-40 years back and didn’t have enough to eat. They used to scrub toilets in hotels!” Growing up with that type of work ethic is what the sister duo attribute to their own personal success. They both graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s College with a degree in business and are passionately chasing their dreams of dancing, acting, and inspiring others to #liveyourbestlife. But growing up as first-generation Indian American wasn’t always easy for them. Poonam and Priyanka recall being amongst only a handful of Indian kids in their Chicago community. Their lunches, which were always home-cooked Indian leftovers, stood out amongst their schoolmates’ lunched sandwiches and brand-known snacks. “Many times, we felt like oddballs,” said Poonam. “We felt like we didn’t belong.” Back then, Poonam and Priyanka struggled constantly with not feeling American enough because of their Indian customs and traditions. But as they learned to become centered in their entire cultural identity, they began to embrace all that is them. “We’re Indian and we’re American,” says Poonam. “Our dancing is a metaphor for who we are as individuals because we combine hip hop with Indian dance. There’s no separating the two.” Brow Service: Sisters. Not Twins. Speaking of separating the two, we asked the sisters what set’s them apart the most. Their answer: their brows and personality. “My personality is laid back and my eyebrows reflect that,” says Poonam. “I like my brows as natural as possible, almost minimalist but classic and elegant.”  Priyanka, on the other hand, refers to herself as being the most aggressive of the two. “I like my eyebrows to be bolder and darker,” she states. “Still feminine, but strong!” Journey to 1 Million Currently on their focus plate is their YouTube docuseries “Journey to 1 Million,” where Poonam and Priyanka document the ambiguous journey of getting from 100k to 1M subscribers on the video platform. “We wanted to uncover our journey, to show all the ups and downs of being a full-time social media influencer. Many think it’s a fluff career, but, really, it’s hard work that requires resiliency,” said Priyanka. In one episode, you see the sister act discussing how although some influencers can earn thousands of dollars per post, that reality is not the same for many social content creators– themselves included. In another episode, Poonam and Priyanka struggle with finding the answer to whether or not they are celebrities themselves. “It’s important to show this type of content because people think success comes so easy,” says Poonam. “But, in reality, everything is going to be a process and everything is going to be a journey”. Are you a Ziba Beauty client who is also on a journey to create a lasting change in your community and in the lives of those around you? If so, we want to hear from you. Eyebrow Waxing For Men: What To Expect

Contrary to popular belief, eyebrow waxing for men is a popular grooming service. If you or someone you know is considering this service for the first time, we encourage you/them to read through some of our general tips on how to prepare for the first visit and how to take care of your/their brows post service. Before your waxing service: CLEAN SKIN Arrive at your appointment with clean skin. While the aesthetician will clean your eyebrows before waxing, it’s always best that your skin is clean and oil-free. NO-NO’S Stay away from retinol one week before your service. Retinol is a chemical exfoliator. And since waxing removes hair and a surface layer of dead skin cells, if the skin has already been exfoliated, waxing the new, thinner skin could cause irritation. For the same reasons, getting a facial should be done after a waxing or several days before. COMMUNICATION Inform your waxer of any allergies you may have. Our wax is made from gentle, natural ingredients, which is safe for nearly all skin types. However to ensure the most hygienic treatment possible our Beauty Artists wear latex gloves during waxing services. Letting us know about allergies in advance, including latex, ensures you have the most comfortable and enjoyable experience. After your waxing service: HANDS OFF Regardless of how often you wash, hands always carry excess oil and dirt. As much as you’ll want to touch your smooth skin after your service, avoid the temptation for 24 hours. Similar to exfoliating, waxing removes the top layer of dead skin cells, which makes your pores a bit vulnerable. NO SUN Avoid the sun for 24 hours. Freshly waxed eyebrows are sensitive and more susceptible to burning, which is never a good thing. If you must be outside, make sure to apply an oil-free sunscreen or wear a cap to provide shade to your brows. EXPECTED If you have sensitive eyebrow skin, you might experience small bumps or a little breakout. Let your beauty artists know if you regularly experience this after waxing so they can utilize the best protocol for your skin. In general, avoid putting oils on the skin immediately following the service. At Ziba Beauty we specialize in The Art of Waxing. To us it’s not just about hair removal, it’s about your experience and how you feel when you leave the studio. Book your appointment for eyebrow waxing for men today.

Perfect Eyebrows For Your Face Shape

Knowing the shape of your face is important when determining how to shape your brows. Once you know your face shape, you can easily figure out what brow shape compliments your face the best. For example, a sharp, angular face shape calls for a more rounded brow to balance out all the facial elements and soften some of your features. Vice versa, a round or oval face shape works best with a sharper, arched brow to bring back dimension to the face. If you’re not sure about your shape, ask your Ziba Brow Artist! They’ve been expertly trained to help you assess your face shape. The oval face is slightly longer than it is wide. The face is widest at your cheekbones. It is considered the ideal facial shape. It is balanced and has an overall look of symmetry. A square face is very equal in regards to length and width. The forehead is broad and most likely straight around the hairline. The long face is obviously longer than it is wider and has a narrow width. The shape can be identified as a stretched egg and is widest at the forehead. The heart-shaped face is longer than it is wide. The chin is noticeably pointed. The face is widest at the forehead but the cheekbones are also wide and pronounced. The diamond-shaped face is longer than it is wide. The chin is noticeably pointed. The forehead is narrower than the cheek line. This face shape is widest at the cheekbones. A round face is pretty much the same width and length. The chin is rounded in shape with no hard lines. The jawline is round and full in shape.

Is Eyebrow Threading Painful?

Eyebrow threading is an ancient hair removal technique that uses cotton thread to remove unwanted hair to shape your brows. The thread is twisted around the Brow Artist’s fingers and pulled along areas of unwanted hair in order to grab the brow hairs directly from the root of the follicle. This method is completely natural and chemical-free. So, does it hurt? Yes and no. With any hair-removal technique, there will always be some level of discomfort. Threading, however, is the least painful. This is because the hair is removed directly from the root. If you’ve ever tweezed your brows, you can compare the feeling of threading to plucking five hairs at once. The level of discomfort a person experiences when threading their brows also depends on each individual person’s sensitivity and the area being threaded. For example, most people find the top of their eyebrow as being a lot less painful when being threaded than the bottom of their brow. How to lessen the pain When you’re having the under part of your brow threaded, your Ziba Beauty Artist will teach you how to use your fingers to hold your eyelid closed and skin stretched. The tighter you pull your skin, the lesser the pain of threading will be. AND the best reason of all – any discomfort or pain you feel the first time you get threaded, will start to lessen every time you get your brows done. It’s chemical free. No liquids or harsh substances are being applied to the skin. It’s fast – an experienced artist can take 7 – 10 mins. The results are longer-lasting. Shaping the brows is much easier and more precise than any other brow shaping technique. Threading can remove even the smallest hairs. The hair is being pulled straight from the follicle, so your skin stays in place. Threading can be performed on any parts of the face! AND the best reason of all – any discomfort or pain you feel the first time you get threaded, will start to lessen every time you get your brows done.

Perfect Eyebrows: The Brow Anatomy

Welcome to Eyebrow Science 101 where you will learn how to achieve perfect eyebrows as you dive into a deeper understanding of brow anatomy. Any beauty expert knows that your brows can do more for your face than almost any makeup product. With the correct brow shape and fill, you can change the perceived size of your eyes, contour your face and show off your best features. However, before any of that we need to get back to the basics – the Anatomy of An Eyebrow. Check out the chart below to get an A+ in Perfect Eyebrows! Now that we’ve learned the fundamentals, we can move onto the five basic brow shapes! While everyone’s face/ brow(s) shape is different, there are 5 basic brow shapes that we can identify, which can then have a bunch of variations to them. Each of the five shapes has the power to change the appearance of your other facial features, so it’s important to pick the right shape for the results you want. Keep reading to find out which shape provides the results you need! Flat Brows: These brows are perfect for anyone with a long face shape because the horizontal line creates the illusion of a shorter face that is also more oval-looking. Round Brows: The round shape is a must if you’re trying to create a softness to your face. It literally adds roundness to the face and helps to minimize sharp features, like a pointed chin or nose. Curved Brows: Believe it or not, curved brows are completely different from round ones! They’re the perfect shape for anyone who doesn’t want too much softness to their features and the shape works extremely well on square faces. Angled Brows: The high arch of an angled brow has the ability to create a more youthful appearance to the face and can make a round or diamond face shape appear slimmer (if that’s what you’re looking for). Soft Angled Brows: This is much like the above except it has a shorter arch and softer peak. The soft angle is key for a more feminine look and is a must-do for an oval face, in place of the regular angled brow which could make the face look perpetually surprised or angry. There you have it – the anatomy of an eyebrow and the five basic brow shapes. Knowing this information can change your brow game completely and help you achieve perfect eyebrows in no time. We hope you enjoyed learning more about your eyebrows and can’t wait to teach you more! Take Care, Ziba Beauty xo

Proper Eye Care 101

Before eyebrow threading, brow makeup, eyeliner, eyeshadow, mascara, the whole deal – you should have your eye-care routine down. Why? The eye area is sensitive so you want to make sure you’re doing everything you can to preserve the area, to prevent any irritation or infections and to stop any signs of premature aging. We’re all for the beautiful process that is aging, it’s 100% natural and happens to everyone, we just don’t want it to start before it has to. Also, early instances of fine lines and wrinkles can be a signs that your skin is in need of some TLC. Therefore, taking extra care of your eye area (from brows to cheek) will ensure better results with eyebrow threading and smoother makeup application. So, without any more delay here are some easy tips for taking care of your beloved eye area. Puffy Eyes It happens to the best of us and for a variety of different reasons. Puffy eyes occur from the swelling of tissue around the eye area and can be caused by something like too much sleep OR not enough sleep – ironic, we know. A surefire way to make sure you’re getting enough sleep, is to train your body to wake up and sleep at the same time every day – ensuring that you’re getting the same amount of sleep as well (hopefully around 7-8 hours). Another thing that can cause puffiness is excess salt intake – to help with this, watch what you eat and try to avoid cooking with too much salt. P.S. Fast foods and foods that have been preserved for a long time, are usually high in salt. To temporarily reduce puffiness around the eyes, you can do a number of things, including. Water: Drinks lots of it! Chamomile Tea Bags: This tea contains natural anti-inflammatories that are perfect for reducing swelling. All you have to do is place two used teabags in the fridge until they are cool and then place them on your closed eyelids for 15 minutes. Cucumber Slices: Yes, there is actually a purpose to these! Cucumbers contain natural tannins (excellent antioxidants) that reduce puffiness. Just cut a cold cucumber into thin slices and place on closed lids for 20 minutes. Sun Damage The sun is a huge contributor to issues regarding the eye area – not surprisingly because we’re exposed to it every. single.day. Things like fine lines and milia all worsen with sun exposure, so you should always wear sunscreen in order to minimize the effects of the sun. In addition, on days when the sun is especially bright and during the summer, always wear sunglasses! Specifically sunglasses that block both UVA and UVB radiation, for protection of the skin around the eyes and your retinas. Btw, those teeny 90s sunglasses might be on-trend but they do nothing for your eye health and protecting the eye area. Function > Fashion is our motto when it comes to protecting your body! Fine Lines Like we said earlier, this is going to happen to all of us – we just don’t need to make them any more significant than they would naturally be! As we grow older, dead skin cells build up around the eye area because our cell turnover rate slows down. The skin isn’t able to renew itself as quickly as it does when we’re younger so the skin thins out, the collagen breaks down, which in turn reduces the elasticity in the skin and causes lines. In order to minimize fine lines you can use eye creams and masks that produce cell turnover and help rebuild collagen. There are a ton of new collagen creams and masks on the market so make sure you do your research, to find the best one for you. P.S. the reason it’s always better to apply these products at night is because our cells regenerate while we sleep! Preventing Infections Since the eyes are very sensitive, they are also prone to getting infected easily. Taking these simple precautions can significantly reduce the risk of getting an infection and are good for you personal hygiene, in general. Only use creams/ masks/ makeup that are specifically made for the eyes. Avoid touching your eye area as much as possible. Wash your hands often in case you do touch your eye area accidentally. Keep all of your makeup brushes clean and throw away any old/ expired eye makeup. Don’t share makeup, specifically makeup for the eyes with anyone else. Don’t sleep with your makeup on, ever! Sharpen your eye pencils every time you use them – this will remove any bacteria or old germs that may have affected it since your last use. And that’s all the tips we have for you today! We hope you found these helpful and are going to try and incorporate one, if not all, into your daily routine. Eye-care is extremely important and doing all the above (and more) will only make your eyes perform better, for a longer period of time. These tips should also help you understand what products work best with your skin type and help keep the skin smooth for better makeup application! Let us know if you have any other tips and if you’d like to see a part two of this post. Until then, take care, Ziba Beauty xo
